LAKEVIEW — Members of Lakeview’s Village Council voted Monday evening to approve a tree planting project at Wiseman Park on the north end of town.

Funded by the Michigan Watershed Association, the initiative will provide for the planting of 65 trees at the park.

According to Village Manger Jake Eckholm, the project will dovetail nicely with a community garden which is also planned for the park. The trees will be planted by Lakeview fifth and sixth grade students.

Plans call for the trees to be an equal measure of red oak, red maple and white paper birch saplings between one- and three-feet tall.

The Watershed Association grant is worth about $2,000 and is provided with no matching funds from the village.
