HOWARD CITY — The Howard City Village Council went into closed session for 34 minutes tonight to discuss a DPW employee issue.
At the request of longtime DPW Director Michael VanWagner, the council went into closed session with Van Wagner and DPW employee Bill Cornelisse.
The closed session began at 7:32 p.m. and ended at 8:06 p.m. during Monday’s regular monthly meeting. No action was taken in open session.
The DPW has been an often tense topic of discussion at council meetings since last year. Council members have complained about not receiving more detailed DPW work reports and citizens have complained about DPW employees not working hard enough.
Meanwhile, DPW employees have denounced council members for not knowing enough about DPW operations to criticize. Specifically, Village Manager-President Randy Heckman and VanWagner have repeatedly clashed over DPW issues.
