BELDING — The Belding Board of Education approved a service contract for the upcoming school year during Monday evening’s regular meeting.

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) mandates that each year school districts put their food service contracts out for bid. The bid was distributed to approximately 20 companies from a state-approved list. Two bids came in for the Belding Area Schools district; one from Chartwells School Dining Services and one from Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE).

The board approved the contract for Chartwells as the company scored highest in a number of factors when compared to SFE. One of those factors was cost, with meals from Chartwells being $2.1755 per meal and $3.5400 per meal from SFE.

Chartwells contract is for a five-year period with four one-year renewals.
