BELDING — After months of hearing from members of the community and outsiders to the community, the Belding Board of Education came to a decision about the Redskins mascot Monday evening.

During the regular meeting, the board unanimously voted to change the mascot from the Redskins and to change the imagery associated with the mascot. The next steps have yet to be determined, but the district and the community will move forward together in deciding what the new mascot will be, according to Superintendent Brent Noskey.

Noskey also said that while he recognizes that there will be people who are unhappy about this decision, he hopes they will set aside their feelings and continue to be supportive of the schools, as the pride in the district didn’t come from being the Redskins but from the accomplishments of students, parents, staff and community member working together.
