STANTON — Wayne Boughan, a new Stanton resident, approached the City Commission during Tuesday night’s meeting regarding burn permit requirements.

Wishing to enjoy the warm weather, he wanted clarification on when he need to call Stanton City Hall for a burn permit when he decided he wanted to enjoy a campfire.

Boughan’s request prompted a conversation among commissioners about the unclear language of Ordinance No. 203 (which can be viewed at stantononline.com).

Boughan and commissioners were unsure if Boughan’s situation would be allowed because it used for heat and cooking or prohibited because he is burning in a receptacle. Another question is what that meant for requiring a burn permit.

Mayor Ken Burris told Boughan that he calls City Hall on Fridays to have a burn permit through the weekend any time he thinks he might want to have a campfire.

While the City Commission looks into the ordinance, Burris told Boughan to continue calling for burn permits.
