JUST IN: Belding man arrested for choking Crystal woman, throwing her out of car

Two people searching for morel mushrooms near Greenville came across an assaulted and injured woman Monday evening.
Two people were walking on Berridge Road south of Fenwick Road around 7 p.m. when they heard a woman calling for help. They found a 19-year-old Crystal woman who was badly injured. They drove the woman to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville.

JUST IN: Greenville man found dead along road, foul play not expected

A Greenville man was found along the side of the road Monday afternoon, but foul play is not expected.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 3000 block of West County Farm Road around 4 p.m. after a body was reported lying in the ditch alongside the road.

Spin the Spokes benefits Habitat for Humanity

As part of its 25 year anniversary celebration, Montcalm County Habitat for Humanity will host its sixth annual Spin the Spokes for Habitat — Tour de 2×4 fundraiser bike ride at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Riders will start behind Greenville Middle School and choose from an eight-mile route on the scenic Fred Meijer Flat River Trail in Greenville, or a 25-, 36- or 50-mile route on the Fred Meijer Heartland Trail between Greenville and Edmore. Rest areas, snacks, water and aid stations will be available along the way.
