FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP - A car-deer accident led to another accident early this morning on M-66.

Kenneth Clinger, 44, Carson City, was driving a 2011 Chevy cargo van southbound on M-66 when he struck two deer in the southbound lane near Snows Lake Road. Clinger pulled his vehicle to the shoulder of the road to report the accident.

Kimberly Johnson, 37, of Carson City, was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion southbound and swerved to avoid the deer laying in the roadway. She collided with the cargo van on the shoulder of the road at about 5 a.m.

Johnson was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated by the Sheridan Fire Department. She was transported to Carson City Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Services and then transferred to Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids by AeroMed. Her condition was not available this morning.

Clinger was uninjured.

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department, both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
