Belding Assistant Fire Chief Darryl Childs uses a thermal imaging camera to look for hot spots inside a burning storage building while another firefighter enters the structure.

OTISCO TOWNSHIP -  Most of a storage building south of Belding is still standing after fire raced through the back off Monday morning.
Belding firefighters responded to 5840 Flat River Trail around 9 a.m. They arrived to find the back of the building ablaze.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly after arriving on the scene and took most of the burned area apart to fully douse the flames.

“We got a pretty hit on it,” Assistant Fire Chief Darryl Childs said.

The area that burned housed some concrete drying chemicals. A small campfire was burning about 20 feet from the metal sided pole building.

The owner and Childs are not sure what sparked the blaze.

A doublewide mobile home about 40 feet from the building was not damaged.

Firefighters cleared the scene about an hour and a half after receiving the call.

The Orleans Township Fire Department also responded with a tanker.
