Fire extinguished behind elementary school

SHERIDAN – Three suspects have been caught after a fire was started behind Central Montcalm Elementary School in Sheridan on Saturday afternoon.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies and the Sheridan Community Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 3:03 p.m. in the woods behind the school. Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire.

Sheriff’s deputies canvassed the area and located two witnesses who identified the suspects. Deputies located the suspects who confessed to starting the fire.

The suspects were identified as two juveniles and one adult male, all from the Sheridan area.

Deputies continue to investigate this incident and have forwarded the report to the Montcalm County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, which may file criminal arson charges.
