Person possibly shot in game area

FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP – Police were not able to locate a person reportedly shot in the Flat River State Game Area in Fairplain Township.

Someone called Montcalm County Central Dispatch around 6 p.m. Friday and reported hearing a male calling for help and saying he had been shot. The caller didn’t hear a shot and couldn’t find the person calling for help.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office and posse spent hours searching for the alleged victim using thermal imaging cameras and night vision equipment to no avail.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Enforcement Division aided in the search.

Police did not find a victim or any trace of a shooting. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at (989) 831-7593.
