Crystal man facing charges 15 years after alleged sexual assault
BIG RAPIDS — A 58-year-old Crystal man is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a child 15 years ago.
Deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Maguire at his home on Tuesday without incident.
Maguire was arraigned in 77th District Court in Big Rapids later that day on three counts of sexually assaulting a child younger than 13.
Police took a report of the same incidents in 2000, when the alleged victim was 15. But the Mecosta County Prosecutor’s Office didn’t issue any charges because the “severity of the allegations and the lack of evidence at the time of the report” weren’t sufficient, said Det. Sgt. Casey Nemeth.
New evidence of more serious assaults recently came to light, leading to the new charges.
Maguire remains lodged in the Mecosta County Jail on $2 million bond.
