Former Montcalm County Sheriff Don Godell died this morning at his home in Florida. He was 79.

Sunday will be the last day for business at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greenville, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“We will be closing the doors for the last time tomorrow. Hope to see all our friends our last two days. Thank you to all,” the post says.

Police are investigating a string of overnight break-ins on Greenville’s northeast side.
Greenville Public Safety Director Mike Stuck said his department has handled about a dozen complaints this morning of garages and vehicles being broken into, mostly around Fifth, Sixth and Coffren streets.

Several emergency crews spent much of Wednesday afternoon and evening searching for an insulin dependent teen who walked nearly 20 miles away from his house. Donald Stephens III’s family reported him missing around 2:50 p.m. after he and his mother had an argument. Stephens, 16, is a diabetic and requires insulin injections throughout the day.
