OTISCO TOWNSHIP — One man suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after his pickup truck slid on ice and hit a tree around 7:30 a.m. today.

Witnesses reported the man was attempting to pass on semi truck heading west on M-44 just west of Whites Bridge Road, where the road narrows from two westbound lanes to one.

When the pickup truck got past the semi, the pickup slid on a patch of black ice, spun around and hit a tree on the south side of the road.

The impact caved in the driver’s side of the truck, pinning the driver inside. He was alone in the vehicle.

Witnesses said the driver was alert and talking at the scene. He was complaining of pain in his leg but no other serious injuries.

The Belding Fire Department used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the driver’s side door from the pickup truck and push the dash off the man’s legs.

Life EMS Ambulance transported him to an area hospital for treatment.

The Michigan State Police is investigating the accident.
