Three people were injured after a vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of M-57 and M-66 early this morning. Montcalm County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Williams responded to the accident at 12:43 a.m.
A seven-week-old puppy is dead but the homeowners are safe after fire broke out in a house on the east side of Half Mile Lake. Five fire departments are battling the fire on Jewett Street, which runs off Half Mile Road west of Morgan Mills Avenue in Spencer Township.

A local man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested Thursday for breaking and entering and stealing — again. Bruce Wireman, 32, of Sand Lake, was arraigned and charged with breaking and entering a building with intent.
Police are searching for the man who allegedly robbed the Family Dollar in Greenville at gunpoint on Thursday evening. Greenville Public Safety Sgt. Dennis Magirl said the robber apparently walked into the store around 8:30 p.m. armed with a handgun and demanded cash. Employees emptied the contents of the cash register, then fled into the manager’s office in the back and called 911.

Four people safely escaped a house fire on High Street in Belding. A husband and wife were in the basement of their home with their two infant children around 2:15 p.m. when they noticed smoke.
Two people were injured in an accident on M-46 in Lakeview. A Lakeview police officer reported the accident to Montcalm County Central Dispatch around 12:15 p.m. in front of the Mobil gas station on M-46 just east of M-91.

The newly opened Maple Valley Market was broken into on New Year’s weekend. Michigan State Police Lakeview Post Trooper Ed Brinkman said the breaking and entering occurred sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning in downtown Trufant. The thieves entered through a window and stole about $3,000 worth of cigarettes and cigars, plus a laptop computer.
