An elderly couple has lost their home as a fire that started in their garage spread through the house and consumed the home in a matter of minutes.

BELDING – An employee called 911 after receiving a bomb threat with specific instructions on how to exit the building at the Belding Party Store.
Police were dispatched at 7:08 p.m. to the store located at 304 N. Bridge, said Belding Police Chief Dale Nelson.

The Greenville Department of Public Safety and the Michigan State Police Department are tracking a young black bear in downtown Greenville.

One man suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after his pickup truck slid on ice and hit a tree around 7:30 a.m. today. Witnesses reported the man was attempting to pass on semi truck heading west on M-44 just west of Whites Bridge Road, where the road narrows from two westbound lanes to one.

More than 100 people are without power in Belding after a high voltage power line fell into the Flat River. The primary line fell into the river around 3 p.m. near York and Morton streets at East Riverside Park. Consumers Energy crews are on the scene attempting to repair it.

Police are searching for the man who allegedly robbed the Family Dollar in Greenville at gunpoint on Thursday evening. Greenville Public Safety Sgt. Dennis Magirl said the robber apparently walked into the store around 8:30 p.m. armed with a handgun and demanded cash. Employees emptied the contents of the cash register, then fled into the manager’s office in the back and called 911.

GREENVILLE – One man has been shot multiple times at the Flat River Inn and Suites in Greenville and the suspect remains on the loose.
