Montabella’s boys basketball team made some strides this season, but it didn’t get the wins it wanted. “I would have loved to have won more games, but I thought it was a pretty positive season,” coach Gary Jankowsky said. “Our JV had a successful season and the varsity got better as a team so I thought it was pretty good.”
In the end Lakeview’s boys basketball team was just better. The Wildcats had no problems knocking off Montabella 58-45 in the semifinals of the Class B district tournament Wednesday night.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association individual wrestling tournament is an exhilarating three-day weekend full of joy and heartbreak. Overall, the area had 26 wrestlers earn their way through a grueling team regular season and then individual district and regional tournaments to reach the state finals. In the end, 12 of those wrestlers placed at least eighth in their respective weight classes and divisions.

Lakeview’s girls basketball team kept rolling on Monday night, though according to coach Dave King, it wasn’t pretty. The Wildcats won their 19th straight game Monday, beating Montabella 44-20 in the first round of the Class C district tournament hosted by the Mustangs.
Montabella’s Sarah Miller had a long wait to reach 1,000 career points. The Mustang senior finally got the points she needed Saturday in a 54-33 loss to Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.
Lakeview 53, White Cloud 18: The Wildcats continued to win in the CSAA, getting an easy win over the Indians Tuesday night. Shawn Lindsey scored 12 points and Jon Wandel and Brad Hamlin had eight each for the winners.
