Beal City’s volleyball team has picked up where they left off last year. The Aggies, who lost to Battle Creek St. Philip in the Class D state finals last year, continued to roll this year by winning the Mustang Invitational Saturday at Montabella High School.

After pool play was done, there were two standout teams at The Daily News Invitational Volleyball Tournament — Belding and Greenville. Both had been undefeated in pool play, so they were the favorites to advance the finals.
Greenville High School graduate Jordan Thomas is set to host his second youth wrestling camp in August. Thomas (2012 graduate), who is now wrestling for the University of Michigan, was a three-time individual state champion in high school. He was state runner-up once and finished his career with more than 200 wins against just three loses.
There were a few things that conspired against Montabella’s baseball team in the 2013 season. First was the weather. Then the youth of the team.
The overwhelming theme of the 2013 Montabella track season was the youth of the two teams. “Both teams were really young. We had hardly any seniors,” said coach Dan Gibson.
The three remaining boys golf teams that were playing in the regional golf tournaments finished 10th or worse Thursday. So golf season is over for Lakeview, Montabella and Tri County after they were eliminated from the boys golf playoffs.
Wednesday and Thursday are the days the three local high school golf teams take to the course for the regional tournaments. Greenville, Lakeview and Montabella all will be heading to their regional tournaments happy that they were able to qualify for the tournaments.
