CC-Crystal boys, Montabella girls win first MSAC meet

Carson City-Crystal’s boys track team and Montabella’s girls track team got wins in the first Mid-State Activities Conference jamboree of the season Wednesday. The Eagle boys scored 112 points, beating the 89.5 scored by Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart and 84 scored by Coleman. Montabella had 48 and Vestaburg scored 13.

Montabella golfers ready for season

The Montabella golf team has been pretty successful the past two seasons, both individually and as a team. In 2013, the Mustangs qualified for the Division 4 team regional tournament. In 2014, three individual golfers reached regionals with Josh Balhorn qualifying for the state tournament.

Montabella girls ‘did some things no one expected’

Montabella’s girls basketball team finished third in the Mid-State Activities Conference, but it was the surprises that caught coach Terry Larsen’s eyes. The Mustangs were 9-12 this season, a season Larsen said he thought “went very well.”

Duflo named Class C All-State by BCAM

Four area girls basketball players earned All-State honors by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan on Tuesday. Carson City-Crystal senior Mikayla Duflo was named Class C All-State, while Montabella junior Ashley Swarts earned Class C honorable mention.

Montabella matmen ‘learned a lot,’ says coach

Montabella’s wrestling team had some question marks coming into the season about how they were going to do. The Mustangs ended up 12-11 in dual meets this season and finished fourth in a loaded Central Michigan Athletic Conference.

Breckenridge superintendent explains moving to MSAC

It’s official. Breckenridge will be moving to the Mid-State Activities Conference (MSAC) along with Merrill. Breckenridge’s Board of Education voted on Monday night to switch its affiliation from the Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) West Division to the MSAC starting with the 2016-17 school year.
