Sports fans are some of the most opinionated people I know. Yes, I am one of those people. We are not always correct, but we do have a passion for our favorite teams and the sports topic of the day.
Greenville High School athletic director Brian Zdanowski is a sports fanatic, more specifically a baseball fanatic. Currently, there are 30 Major League Baseball organizations, meaning 30 different professional ballparks.
Saturday morning was the perfect time to take a swim, ride a bike or go for a run. Saturday morning was so nice, 165 individuals and/or teams of three all decided to swim, bike and run. They did so as part of the fourth annual Clifford Lake Triathlon in Stanton.
They needed two games and extra innings, but in the end, RJ’s Sports Bar accomplished its goal and captured the prize. RJ’s Sports Bar outlasted defending tournament champion All-American Domination in a two-game final on Sunday to win the men’s Danish Festival Softball Tournament.
The Maxfield siblings have made just three payments on a $220,000 loan from the Edmore Economic Development Fund since 2006. Meanwhile, the Edmore Economic Development Loan Fund Committee hasn’t met in five years. For the second time in three years Sports Galore is a winner. Sports Galore knocked off Magnum Sports 14-6 in the finals of the Greenville Classic Softball Tournament Saturday.
It all started with a group of friends who wanted to play basketball. It evolved into Gus Macker Basketball — the original 3-on-3 tournament. Now 40 years later, Gus Macker is a community event. It’s a weekend event where family and friends still get together to play basketball for the love of the game.
The Greenville Classic softball tournament is still on — somewhat. According to Greenville Parks and Recreation Director Kris Berry, the co-ed tournament has been canceled due to lack of interest. The men’s tournament will continue.
Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is intent on ridding his sport of performance enhancing drugs. I applaude his determination, but let’s just say it is about time.
After weeks of rain and clouds, the sunshine finally made an appearance. It was perfect timing as the 6th annual Yellow Jacket Challenge took place at Greenville High School on Sunday.
