Michael Huckleberry announced his candidacy Saturday with support from local government officials and Sen. Carl Levin. Huckleberry, 63, said he would be running for State Representative in Michigan’s 70th District.
Christina Beckman was told less than 24 hours prior to President Barack Obama giving his speech at the University of Michigan that she would be introducing him. That staff at the Office of Public Affairs on the university’s campus nominated their employee Beckman, 20, of Greenville, to introduce the president in front of a crowd of about 4,000 at Al Glick Field House on the school’s Ann Arbor campus. Beckman said she had so many emotions running through her when she was selected including being nervous, scared and excited.
The Daily News, using the Freedom of Information Act, acquired the audio from the 16-minute 911 call made on Jan.5, 2012, during the robbery of the Family Dollar in Greenville. This video includes an 8-minute portion of that audio, which has been edited to protect the individuals involved.
Police are searching for the man who allegedly robbed the Family Dollar in Greenville at gunpoint on Thursday evening. Greenville Public Safety Sgt. Dennis Magirl said the robber apparently walked into the store around 8:30 p.m. armed with a handgun and wearing a black ski mask. The suspect pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded cash. Two employees emptied the contents of the cash register, then locked themselves in the manager’s office in the back of the store with a customer who was in the store at the time and called 911.
The Lowell Red Arrows took the first step toward winning an O-K White Conference wrestling title in 2012. The Red Arrows avenged last season’s loss by defeating the host Greenville Yellow Jackets 45-18 in a battle of top rated teams. According to michigangrappler.com the Red Arrows are rated No. 2 in Division 2 while the Yellow Jackets are No. 4 in Division 2.

The Greenville Yellow Jackets started strong and finished even stronger against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers. Torrey Davis scored seven first half points en route to a 21-point effort as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Pioneers 65-48 on Friday night. The win gives the Yellow Jackets an early boost in the O-K White Conference race as they improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Black Friday will take on a new meaning at Meijer stores. The company’s Chairman Emeritus Fred Meijer died Friday from complications of a stroke he suffered early Friday. He was 91.
