Members of the Greenville Department of Public Safety spent Thursday investigating the remnants of fire at 10325 Stakes Road, which left the home a total loss Wednesday night. Sgt. Brian Blomstrom said most of the day was spent going through the rubble of the home, taking photos, making sketches and narrowing down the cause of the fire.

The Greenville Area Community Center has a familiar face for its new leader. Kristina Berry, director of the Greenville Parks & Recreation Department, also took on the role of director of the Greenville Area Community Center on July 1.

Three firefighters from the Montcalm Township Fire Department have been selected to receive advance training to help further their skills. During Wednesday night’s meeting, the Montcalm Township Board of Trustees approved sending three firefighters to the training at a cost of $80 each.

Officers with the Michigan State Police, Greenville Department of Public Safety, Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office and Carson City Police Department participated in the inaugural Law Enforcement Torch Run on Thursday afternoon. A total of 18 officers participated in the 5K event on the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail in Greenville.

A 13-year-old boy from Greenville suffered minor injuries after being struck by a car while on his bicycle. The Greenville Department of Public Safety responded to Clay Street between M-57 and Cass Street around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Sgt. Jamie Sorsen said a green Chrysler was pulling out of a private lot between St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and attorney John Raven’s office on Clay Street.

Montabella’s volleyball team got their first win of the season Thursday night, and it had a single theme according to coach Jordann Jankowsky. “We never gave up,” she said.

The three sports seasons of the previous school year were hard on Montabella’s Allie Ball. That’s because she was injured in every season, and was unable to finish any of them.
