Belding and Greenville high schools have put themselves on the map with their brand new athletic facilities. Regardless, of how we feel about the cost or need, these two schools have some of the best athletic facilities around. It’s not just one field that sets them apart, but the combination of all.

The second annual Mercy Run will take place Saturday at Klackle’s Orchard and Pavilion. Last year’s Mercy Run was a tour around Greenville’s new Fred Meijer Flat River Trail and was an 8-mile run. This year the committee moved the run to accommodate weekend runners with with more popular distances of a 5K and 10K.

The Mid-Michigan District Health Department is giving flu shots at $30 a pop to anyone willing to bare their arm at the Stanton office. The service is appreciated by some, but is greeted with skepticism by others.

After 29 years of serving the Greenville Community, a sergeant is hanging up his hat as he prepares to enjoy the next chapter of his life. Sgt. Randy Elzinga retired from the Greenville Department of Public Safety in late August. He first joined the department when it was switching over to the public safety concept.

Ground was broken for expansion at Green Acres Retirement Living Aug. 22 and work is underway to create eight additional apartments, a community living and dining area and additional office space. The facility is celebrating National Assisted Living Week with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. today.

When it comes to fishing, Bill Simpson knows how to finish. The Stanton resident spent last week in Lacrosse, Wisc. along the shores of the Mississippi River competing in the 2012 The Bass Federation (TBF) Northern Division Championship.

The first Mid-State Activities Conference South Division game between Carson City-Crystal and Vestaburg has taken on added significance. The game was originally designated by the Eagles and Wolverines as the “Salute Our Soldiers” game, with a large number of activities surrounding Friday’s game.
