Although the idea for a median on Lafayette Street in downtown Greenville was first turned down in 2002, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is giving it a second look.

Greenville Department of Public Safety officers and firefighters responded to an accident at the intersection of M-57 and Youngman Road shortly before 1 p.m. today. A black sedan left the road and flipped onto its side and into a ditch on the northwest corner of Youngman Road.

Award-winning author Susan Whiteall will be a special guest Thursday evening at Carson City Public Library to talk about her new book, “Fever: Little Willie John — A Fast Life, Mysterious Death and the Birth of Soul.” Whitall will be at the library at 7 p.m. Thursday for storytelling, questions and answers and book signing as part of the Library of Michigan’s 2012 Michigan Notable Authors Tour.

Spectrum Health United Hospital’s Emergency Department will begin providing patient care services in the newly constructed portions of the Stanley and Blanche Ash Emergency Department. The move was set to begin at 7 a.m. today and will allow the existing emergency department to begin renovation.

There’s just something about a small town summer festival — the banners, flags, music and food. All the folks with whom you already have at least a nodding acquaintance getting together at one time in one place to celebrate … well … to celebrate the simple pleasure, that is life in a small town. Few small towns do it better than Lakeview, which will host Summerfest on Friday and Saturday. Montcalm Community College will receive an increase from last year’s state appropriations fund. President Bob Ferrentino announced the news at Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting at the college’s Sidney campus.

The general mood was somber on Belding’s side of Wolbers Field Tuesday. The Redskins had just lost the Division 2 quarterfinals to Wayland Union 11-1.
