Nora Ryan named Carson City Area Citizen of the Year

A spunky nurse with a knack for getting her move on was honored Tuesday evening during the 19th annual Carson City Area Community Recognition Night at St. Mary’s Hall. Nora Ryan, a registered nurse at Carson City Hospital and local Zumba instructor, was named Citizen of the Year on Tuesday evening in front of her family, friends and co-workers.

Belding and Greenville engage in royal food challenge

A friendly competition between two rival towns will result in a winning situation for both communities. Miss Danish Festival 2011 Audrey Frank challenged Miss Belding 2011 Arianna Leppink to a Greenville vs. Belding food drive competition this week at the two high schools to see which community can round up the most nonperishable food items to contribute to local food pantries.

Names have been released regarding a fatal car-motorcycle accident Wednesday night in Ionia.

McBride receives DNR development grant

Visitors to the Robert Lee Davis Memorial Park in McBride are in for a change of scenery. The village of McBride received a letter last December that it was among those recommended to receive a $132,300 Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) development grant.

Greenville to host Odyssey of the Mind competition

Students of all ages will be using creativity, problem solving and teamwork this weekend for the Odyssey of the Mind Region 13 Tournament. The tournament will take place at Greenville High School for the second year in a row. “Odyssey of the Mind is an important program for students, especially in times of K-12 budget cuts,” said Korie Crawford, regional director. “It provides critical and creative thinking skills that are not always found in traditional school curriculum.”
