Trufant man loses pole barn, pickup truck in fire (Gallery)
TRUFANT — A pole barn and partially restored Chevy pickup truck were destroyed in a fire Thursday afternoon at 552 S. Masters Rd.
Stan Wills was resting in his home around 3 p.m. when a firefighter began banging on his front door and ringing his doorbell to alarm him of the fire.
“I was inside my house laying down when a firefighter rang my door bell,” he said. “I looked out the window and couldn’t believe it. My barn was on fire.”
Wills said he and the firefighter used his own hose to spray down the nearby propane tank, about 15 feet from the pole barn, until assistance from Lakeview District and Maple Valley Township fire departments arrived.
Maple Valley Township Fire Chief Dan Kain said when firefighters arrived on scene the fire was fully involved.
“The fire is under control, we’re just putting out the remaining hot spots,” he said. “But the pole barn is a complete loss.”
Kain said the cause of the fire is not known and is “still under investigation.”
No one was harmed in the fire, something Wills said he was very thankful for.
“I was just working in that barn earlier today,” he said. “Things like my 1983 Chevy pickup truck, lumber and other things I had in there can be replaced, but people can’t.”
