thedailynews.cc’s 2013 Summer Photo Contest begins June 1, 2013 and ends August 31, 2013, at 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that they are 18 years old or older.
Who may enter:
Individuals who are 18 years old or older, including employees, Regents, trustees, interns, volunteers, and immediate families (children, siblings and spouses) and others living in their households-are eligible. The Daily News will determine winners’ eligibility in its sole discretion.
What to enter:
Three contest categories are drawn from subjects of special interest to thedailynews.cc:
The Michigan Experience—Events, Animals, plants, landscapes, objects or activities taken solely in the state of Michigan are eligible. Photos taken out of the state are not permitted. Proof of location maybe asked to be provided.
Altered Images—Photographs manipulated for artistic purposes by applying digital and/or traditional special effects (i.e. colorizing, toning, collage, photo composites, HDR, etc.) are permitted.
“enhanced or altered”?
Contestants cannot construct photographs from pieces of other photographs (panoramic stitching is permitted). But minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable. If our staff sees that the photographer has obviously altered a photo, they have the right to disqualify it.
Mobile—Mobile device photos are welcome.
For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and provide it to the The Daily News upon request. A sample release is available at http://thedailynews.cc/wp-content/blogs.dir/37/files/forms/tdn2013_web_modelrelease.doc.
Photographs that have won any other contests are not eligible. We define winning as having won a grand prize or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place overall. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright, are not eligible.
How to enter:
Please submit photographs and requested information on-line through our web site at thedailynews.cc/photocontest. We do not accept photographs submitted through the mail. Submit no more than three (3) photographs per category. We do not accept more than one contestant per e-mail address. Alternatively if you are having problems with the photo uploader you may email email@example.com, with your name, phone number and short description of your photo.
High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible. Use the on-line entry form on our website. The finalists will be asked to submit a high-resolution file or an original negative, print or slide. Original negatives, prints, or slides will be returned to finalists.
The Daily News reserves the right to disqualify incomplete entries and/or contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph or an original photo negative, print or slide.
The Daily News may collect a photograph’s metadata upon entry.
By entering the contest, entrants grant The Daily News, and those authorized by The Daily News, a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly and all other standard Daily News purposes.
