St. Johns Homeschoolers 63, Butternut Homeschoolers 47: For the second time this season, Butternut lost to St. Johns, this time Tuesday night. St. Johns jumped out to a 22-3 first-quarter lead and cruised from there. David Crouse and Caleb Wyman had 15 points for Butternut and Josh Snyder added 13 more. Quote: “The boys never gave up and we actually had them (St. Johns) nervous in the fourth (quarter). They have won our state tournament four years in a row and have a really strong team this year.” – Butternut coach Steve Crouse. Record: 6-2. Next game: n/a.
Girls basketball
Greenville freshmen win at Cornerstone: The Yellow Jackets took home the freshman girls title at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament with wins over Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern 39-13 Monday and Jenison 28-13 Wednesday. Sarah Ritz scored eight points to lead Greenville against Forest Hills Eastern and tournament MVP Carlie Bradford led Greenville with six against Jenison. Record: 6-0. Next game: at Grand Rapids Creston Jan. 5.
