Tri County splits at Ludington: The Vikings split a pair of Lakes 8 games on Friday against the Orioles. Tri County won game one 6-1 behind the pitching efforts of Devin Longoria. Longoria earned the win in seven innings of work, allowing just three hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Cody Mitz led the Vikings at the plate with four hits and three RBIs. Mitch Swaney and Mitch Goerner each had two hits. Ludington rallied for four runs in the second game to beat the Vikings 4-3. Brandon Peterman pitched all seven innings, allowing five hits, three walks while striking out eight. Longoria had three hits and two RBIs while Peterman added two hits. Record: 2-3 (1-1). Next: at home Tuesday against Grant for a doubleheader.
Central 0-2 at Portland: The Green Hornets were mercied in both of their games at the Portland Invitational Saturday, losing to Owosso 11-1 in five innings and Lansing Waverly 15-5 in six innings. Micah Parr allowed nine hits and eight walks in the first game, striking out three. Central had only three hits: by Parr, Hunter Myers and Austin Edwards. Edwards took the loss in the second game, scattering 14 hits and three walks amongst four strikeouts. Myers had two of Central’s six hits. Record: 1-3. Next: at home Tuesday against Big Rapid
Montabella 1-2: The Mustangs played three games at the Morley Stanwood Invitational on Saturday. Montabella won game one defeating White Cloud 9-5. Emily Lint (4-1) earned the win. She allowed two hits, walked nine and struck out seven. The Mustangs had 13 hits in the game with Melissa Allen leading the way with three of them and four RBI. Krista Daws, Allie Ball, Cheyann Frasle and Kayla LaCroix each had two hits. Lint and Frasle had two RBIs, while Sarah Ranney and Ball each drove in one run. Ionia won game two 21-9. The Mustangs did score eight runs in the fourth inning after trailing 11-0. Frasle was the losing pitcher (1-2). Mariah Davidson and LaCroix each had two RBIs. Game three was a 14-5 victory for Morley Stanwood. Lint (4-2) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and four walks in six innings. Daws and Ball each had two hits. Ball had two RBIs. Central eighth: The Green Hornets were in the Gold Division of the Mohawk Relays at Morley-Stanwood Saturday and finished eighth, getting only three places. The long jump relay was fifth with Dylan Ledin and Tyler Reed, the high jump relay was sixth with Alex Maxted and Nathan Barnwell and the shot put relay was sixth with Brandon Antes and Cory Kindle. Next: at Chippewa Hills Tuesday with Big Rapids.
Hornets fourth at Mohawk Relays: Central’s girls took fourth place as a team in the Gold Division of the Mohawk Relays at Morley-Stanwood Saturday. LaShae Wright led the Green Hornets with fourth places in the 400-meter relay, the Mohawk Sprint Medley and the Mohawk Medley. Rachel Davis, Cierra Sutherland and Kiersten Everingham had two places each for Central. Next: at Chippewa Hills Tuesday with Big Rapids.
