Vestaburg mercies Montabella twice: The Wolverines allowed only one hit to the Mustangs in two games Monday, mercying Montabella 11-1 and 11-0. Kayla Dill was the winning pitcher for Vestaburg, allowing only an Allie Ball hit in five innings. The loss went to Emily Lint, who walked six and allowed five hits — two of those to Taylor Darmondy, who had four RBIs. Janelle Rons threw a five-inning no-hitter at the Mustangs, allowing only a controversial hit batter to miss a perfect game. She struck out seven. Kayla LaCroix was the losing pitcher for Montabella, as she walked 11 batters. Dill had two hits and Darmody added four more RBIs. Records: Montabella is 4-9 and 2-2, Vestaburg is 6-0 and 4-0. CC-Crystal loses two: The Eagles dropped a pair of CMAC games to Laingsburg Monday, losing 12-1 and 12-6. In game one, Katie Wilcox was the losing pitcher, as she walked nine and allowed six hits while striking out six. CC-Crystal had only three hits: from Mackenzie Geister, Raelynne Ferguson and Mariya Schafer. Geister was hit with the loss in the second game, despite walking four and fanning two with nine hits allowed. Wilcox and Tomberlee Smith had two hits and Meriah Gallagher had a home run for the Eagles. Records: 3-3 and 1-3. Next games: at Fowler Thursday.
CC-Crystal splits: The Eagles lost the first game of their CMAC doubleheader with Laingsburg 5-3, but beat the Wolfpack 4-3 in the second game Monday. Nathan LaVictor was the losing pitcher in the opener despite allowing two hits and five walks on seven strikeouts. Mitch Wesley and Lucas Ratu had the only hits in the game for CC-Crystal. The Eagles won the second game when the Wolfpack walked four straight batters in the sixth inning. LaVictor came back in the second game in relief of Jeremy Schneider and struck out four. Hunter Clark had two hits and three stolen bases for CC-Crystal. Records: 4-3 and 1-3. Next games: at Fowler Thursday.
Belding shoots 201: The Redskins competed in an O-K Blue Conference jamboree on Monday at Scott Lake Golf Course hosted by Comstock Park. The Redskins shot a 201 in rough conditions. Cody Christensen led Belding with a 48. Bryce Johnson shot 49, Zack Johnston 52 and Tyler Christensen a 58. Sparta was first with 167, followed by Cedar Springs and Comstock Park with 169. Next match: at Ionia on Wednesday.
Lakeview fires 393: The Wildcats shot a 393 to finish in 10th place at the Greenville Invitational on Monday at Glenkerry Golf Course. Jon Wandel shot 89 to lead Lakeview. Jon King fired a 92, RK Boomer a 104 and Jake Inman and Nate Nelson each shot 108. Muskegon Mona Shores won the event with a 308. Forest Hills Central was second with 314 and Grand Ledge tied for third with Kenowa Hills at 333. Central Montcalm was sixth with 354, Greenville eighth with 366 and Montabella 11th with 437. Andrew Yeager of Forest Hills Central was match medalist with a 73. Next match: at Chippewa Hills Warrior Invitational on Thursday.
