Northview 4, Tri County 2: The Vikings were downed by the Wildcats in a nonconference game Wednesday. Christian Johnson took the loss for Tri County, allowing eight hits and four walks, striking out three. The Vikings had only two hits: from Brandon Peterman and Cody Smits. Record: 8-6. Next: at East Grand Rapids Friday.
Soccer
Belding 3, West Catholic 2: The Redskins beat the Falcons for the first time ever Wednesday night, breaking a 2-2 tie with a goal from Mackenzie Krieger for their second win in a row. Krieger also scored in the first half as did Haylee Batzer, with both of those goals assisted by Charlene Kehoe. Samantha Parker made 11 saves in net for Belding. Record: 2-5-1. Next: at home against Comstock Park Monday.
Golf
Greenville 161, GR Creston 237: The Yellow Jackets had no trouble with the Polar Bears or the wind Wednesday. Dylan Bernth was the low scorer with a 37, followed by Jake Fisch with a 38, Brady McNeill with a 40 and Tyler Rasmussen with a 46. Next: at NorthPointe Christian Invitational Friday.
Central fourth at Chippewa Hills: The Green Hornets shot a team score of 347 at the Chippewa Hills Invitational Wednesday at the Royal of Canadian Lakes. Alma won the event with a 311, followed by Fowler with a 340 and Cedar Springs with a 343. Leading Central was Ryan Michalek with a 79, followed by Tyler Sleet with an 84, Jared Cilibraise with a 91 and Tyler Johnson with a 93. Quote: “I’m still waiting on this team to fire on all cylinders. I have hopes we can shoot 320 or better.” – Central coach Gary Buchholz. Next: at home for a CSAA jamboree Tuesday.
Fulton 179, Montabella 202: The Mustangs were beat by the Pirates in a dual meet Wednesday. Low scorers for Montabella were Dakota Lobert with a 47, followed by Michael Hyde with a 50, Austin Huber with a 51 and Trent Sabin with a 54. Next: at Breckenridge for the Huskie Invitational Friday.
