Montabella downs Central twice: The Mustangs picked up a pair of nonconference wins Monday, beating Central Montcalm 6-5 and 3-2. Nate Bandfield got the win despite four hits and five walks allowed. He struck out three. He was relieved by Travis Dunn, who got the save with one hit and one strikeout. Montabella had six hits by six different players in the game. The second game was won by Drew Nemeth, who pitched all but the last out of the game. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out two. Dunn got the final out for the save on a fly ball. Bandfield and Nate Jankowsky had three hits each in the game. Records: Montabella is 8-12-2, Central’s was not available. Next: Montabella is at Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Thursday, Central is home against Morley Stanwood today.
Vestaburg tops CC-C twice: The Wolverines had no problems with the Eagles Monday, winning games of 5-2 and 9-5. Kayla Dill won both games on the mound for Vestaburg, as she allowed nine hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in the opener and seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in he nightcap. Katie Wilcox took both losses for CC-Crystal, scattering six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in the first game and eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts in the second game. Leading the Wolverines in hitting were Lauren Bissell with two hits in the first game and Dill and Ryalee Dove with two hits each in the second game. Wilcox and Tomberlee Smith had two hits each in the first game, and seven different hitters had one hit in the second game. Records: CC-Crystal is 10-18, Vestaburg’s was not available. Next: CC-Crystal is at Morrice today, Vestaburg is at Coleman Thursday.
Belding shoots 168: The Redskins went to Moss Ridge in Coopersville for Monday’s O-K Blue jamboree and shot a team score of 168, which was seventh in the conference. Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern had the best score with a 154. Belding’s top scorers were Cody Christensen with a 37, Conor Wisman with a 40 and Nick Badder and Bryce Johnson with a 46 each. Next: at home today against Lowell.
Butternut wins triangular: The Butternut Homeschoolers joined Greenville’s and Lowell’s JV teams at Glenkerry Monday and beat them both, shooting a 155 team score. Caleb Wyman was Butternut’s best scorer with a 37, followed by David Crouse and Isaiah Wyman with matching 38s and Issac Crouse with a 42. Next: at Lakeview Friday.
